I returned to the Albany in Deptford last night for the first time since seeing Jali Musa Jawara some 20 years ago. This time round it was for a revelation in brass led and directed by the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Nice venue, great crowd and a top class band at the height of their powers. Support was provided by Bass Clef, a one man trombone and beats maker.
The Sankofa track, recorded for Honest Jons, was the first to really get the party started. By the end of the evening no chairs were in use.
