Bare feet dancing in the sand!
For a while I was getting worried that the Miles Cleret's Soundway label would be going the same was as Strut/Afrostrut after being burnt with their ambitious Mulatu retrospective.. Previously responsible for unearthing some great Afrofunk originals they are now back with a second latin Long Player and limited issue 7" focusing on Columbia and the output of Disco Fuentes. This takes me back to the eighties when Mango were licensing material from Disco Fuentes and when World Circuit put out a killer Joe Arroyo compilation called Rebellion. Head over to the Soundway site for some samples and download the exclusive Matsuli MP3 below.

As a Matsuli exclusive here's the track Susan (DOWNLOAD) from the Wganda Kenya LP Cartagena Caribe. "Wganda Kenya is a Disco Fuentes studio band that was put together a while back to record non-latin tropical hit songs from places like West Africa, Curaçao and Martinique. This kind of music is very popular with the ‘champeta sound systems’: pretty similar set-ups to the reggae sound systems that you see at places like Notting Hill Carnival. ‘Champeta’ is supposed to sound like the noise that bare feet make when they’re dancing in sand!" (John Armstrong from the UnionSqare website)

nice! Summer suddenly seems not so far away!
Yes, Miles Cleret has very good ears. Soundway's T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo compilation and the Afro Baby selection of Nigerian 70s sounds are both most excellent, and the Ghana Funk comps are not far behind.
Discos Fuentes put out a huge number of releases. The originals had about the cheesiest covers imaginable, often of blondes in swimsuits or other negligible beach clothes looking saucy with erect nipples and sailors' caps. I used to find them for only a few dollars in weird record stores in San Francisco's Mission district. Much more authentic than the Mango releases! However, Discos Fuentes distribution was sketchy on the West Coast and the Mangos were easier to find. For those sufficiently interested, I've recently noticed that eMusic has 275 Discos Fuentes releases available, the covers of some featuring the female body (or parts of one) in provocative and unlikely poses.
And, of course, the Wganda Kenya track that is the total classic is the Afrobeat "Shalaoade," an utterly demented version of a Fela tune. Perhaps more widely available and played out than "Susan," however.
Hí DJ Jackdaw,

Also esteem much the "Shalaoade," song of Fela Kuti, in my City is great a classic one, i know other version of this song is sung by:
The name is Diferent "Sacalao", but she is the Same one but with influence of the sound of Cumbia of Colombia.
